GETTING STARTED

GETTING STARTED 🌀 PranaDanda Yoga Sadhana with Demetri & Shiva PranaDandaYoga is a skillful and powerful style of yoga that involves interweaving five~foot flexible staff around the body merging with powerful spiral movements and a Vira Prana Flow® vinyasa sequence. As a guide and partner for Prana Flow Energetic Vinyasa the danda precisely aligns the body, refines coordination and facilitates an energetic flow state. As an object of meditation, the danda unifies mind-energy into the central channel of the energy body (Inner Danda/Bliss Body) thereby harnessing creative potency and penetrating through distraction and dualistic thinking. While PranaDanda is its own unique system of embodied artistry and moving meditation it draws inspiration from yoga, boxing, martial arts, spinning (the flow arts) and swordsmanship. Its main influence and sister practice is Prana Flow Energetic Vinyasa system of yoga developed by Shiva Rea Open to anyone who has participated in PranaDandaYoga Teacher Training or who is interested in upcoming Teacher Training and PDY workshops. Please order a PranaDanda for practice or work with the "inner danda" with the arm movements without a danda Five Weeks of First Level Practice includes: 2 Core Prana Danda Meditations: "Nine-round Nadi Shodana" and Danda Mudra Vinyasa 5 Sequences Staking the Ground, Scanning the Horizon, Churning Warrior, Entering the Gate, Heaven & Earth 5 Kriyas of PDY One - Five-Beat Flow, Metronome, Turning the Wheel, Rocking the World and On Guard Certification in PDYoga Requirements: Practice two PDY online practice sessions Attend one PDY Teacher Training Retreat Submit one video of practice 200 hr TT Danda: Purchase a danda at: www.pranaflowyoga.com If no danda is available, use inner danda and arms.

PranaDanda Yoga Opening Meditation

Practise PranaDanda movements through Guardian, shoulder-opening, twists, lunges, warrior two, and alternate nostril breathing to focus on inner alignment and clear channels.

3:23

Session 1 - Sweeping the Horizon

This sequence was recorded in the early morning at Hammond Castle located on the coast of Gloucester, Mass. The castle, which was constructed between 1926 and 1929, was the home and laboratory of John Hays Hammond, Jr. Mr. Hammond was an inventor and a pioneer in remote control and held over four hundred patents. This is a powerful image of a guardian protecting the gate as symbolic of the steadfast mind attentive and alert to the present moment. This is the meditative basis of PDY.

4:28

Scanning the Horizon, One Beat and Three Beat Flow

We were very fortunate to have the farmer's permission to visit this sacred crop circle during our pilgrimage to nearby Avebury and Stonehendge in the beautiful English countryside (if you want to see an arial view search "Sidbury Hill crop circle June 2013"). This is how Sweeping the Horizon evolves into a rhythmic flow. Scanning the Horizon can be done anywhere, anytime with or without the danda. Finding a spacious area is rare these days so if you have access to an open area take advantage, take just a moment and look without a looker and rest in the sky like nature of mind.

6:39

Scanning the Horizon with Natural Mind

I urge you to please watch this video when you can really absorb the transmission of these instructions from whom many believe was an enlightened master. I am reading from his small pithy book titled Vajra Speech by Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. Scanning the Horizon was transmitted to me by my teacher Lama Willa Baker and i cannot say enough about the power of this "method of no method" to simply relax into natural mind. Like anything, in order for it to have an effect it needs to be repeated a lot.

57:57

PranaDanda Session Two

PranaDanda practice combines Palasana meditation, balancing the danda, shoulder-opening movements, twists, side angles, and lunges with focused sensing.

11:18

Awakening the Inner Danda with Nine Round Breathing

Arm movements and alternate nostril breathing visualize wisdom energy moving through the side and central channels, with breath retention and dedication.

43:22

Session Three - Heaven & Earth Namaskar

Practice PranaDanda flows through staking the ground, guardian and warrior poses, twists, bowing, and Heaven and Earth Namaskar.

58:26

Session Four - Moving Heaven & Earth

PranaDanda practice combines danda movements, warrior variations, Palasana, and nine-round breathing with focus on ritual, balance, and energy channels.

49:41

Session Five - Heaven & Earth Straight Up!

Palasana and warrior variations flow into Dandha Mudra Vinyasa, nine-round breathing, metronome work, grounding, and horizon scanning.
